A fellow Flickr user emailed me earlier this week to enquire about one of my lenses, the Samyang 85mm 1.4 and how it performed in low light portraiture. It’s actually a lens that I use primarily for landscapes. The focal length equivalent on my camera system makes it a 170mm 1.4 – which is pretty much on the long end for portraiture, and an insanely narrow depth of field for the distance, but here are some quick test shots I took yesterday morning.
Just for fun, these photographs are more or less out of camera, converted to black and white via lab method and not much else! They were shot between ISO 800-2500, 1/100 at f/1.4

A little selection of some photographs I shot for the wedding of Nathan and Nicole on 1st October 2011. I was attending as second-shooter/assistant for Ngarie of NJ Humphrey Photography. The wedding and reception was held at Mulberry On Swan which is a fabulous venue set in the beautiful Swan Valley here in Perth, Western Australia. What an amazing romantic event. Wishing you the very best in life, Nicole and Nathan, what a lovely couple you are. Enjoy your future life together
And many thanks to Ngarie of NJ Humphrey Photography, it was both an honour and a pleasure to work with you.

Meet Randall, he’s quite the model! An elegant woofer, he’s settled into his new home and enjoying the love and attention that every furry most definitely deserves. He is such a well behaved good boy, and did I mention gentle and loving?

More woofer pouts and noses and furry bits will be featuring soon from a wonderful session with the highly enigmatic and oh-so-photogenic Randall … stay tuned
The “M” family have had some recent new additions, two in fact! A lil sweet boy and girl, twins
Their Mum and Dad and big brother sure have got their hands full, but you wouldn’t know, they are so well behaved and cute as can be. It’s always a lot of fun working with a lovely young family, I even got to have a little cuddle of the little ones too. I’d like to wish them all the very best in their future family ventures
So here’s a little preview of these cute little people!

Hope of www.hopealexander.com had popped over for a cuppa this afternoon and we went outside (just before the big storm hit) to size up her poster for fun. She’s not used to seeing herself “bigger than ben hur” at approximately 47 x 40 inches
Just as well it was laminated! It started raining cats and dogs shortly after … it was laminated for the flight to Melbourne, but turns out the weather was far worse in Perth!

Ohh this was very exciting, but I couldn’t post until the conference was finished! Back late June, Hope Alexander Master Public Health of www.hopealexander.com booked me for a portrait session as part of a poster presentation for the “2011 Consumers Reforming Health Conference”. This was the inaugural international conference for community engagement in health care, in Melbourne, July 2011. The conference photographic poster presentation in its finished state, was 1 x 1.2 metres.
Have you ever visited the doctor’s surgery and seen all those glossy posters up on the wall with healthy, vibrant and confident looking professional health care providers? Given the title of Hope’s poster presentation, “Yes, consumers can … the expert patient lives on!” I thought I would be cheeky, and run with that concept, except have the “patient” playing the part of the healthy, vibrant and confident looking health professional! The feedback was, that it worked very well!
